Bareboat charter
Chartering a yacht as a bareboat means being a skipper yourself and taking responsibility for navigation and safety on board.
Port authorities in Greece require a certificate of competence in navigation; RYA day skipper, International Certificate of Competence or national equivalent.
The local port police will check all the documents to allow you to leave the port, both boat documents and your certificate.
When entering a new port, the Port Police may check your sailing licenses but in most cases they will only check the boat papers.
The International Certificate of Competence or RYA coastal skipper and yachtmaster offshore or higher certificates are almost always accepted.
On the other hand, you can always hire a skipper even if you own your certificate but you don't feel certain about your sailing abilities. Your skipper could help you at least with some difficult manoeuvres and learn you how to handle a yacht.
