When to sail in Greece?
Weather conditions allow you to sail all year round. However, the yacht charter season starts in early April when air temperatures rise above the seawater temperatures and it lasts till November.
The high season runs from the last week of July till the first week of September. During this period, the most crowded places will surely be Corfu, Lefkas, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes and other islands. This is the period of high temperatures and Meltemi wind, a dry wind which occasionaly blows from the north between May and September.
The Ionian and North Aegean Islands are fresh green islands that remain fertile during the whole sailing season. You can enjoy beautiful nature of these island sailing in April, May and June.
Prices are more favourable during these months. It won't be too crowded, so you can easily find an anchorage for your yacht. Besides, the water temperature will be pleasant for swimming and the weather is stable for the Azores High becomes more dominant over the Euro-Asian High.
September could be considered as the late season since tourists arrival will dicrease. However, this could be an ideal period for your sailing vacation, not only because of favourable charter prices but because of pleasant climate, ideal for snorkeling and diving.
The Azores High becomes less dominant in October which results in unstable atmosphere.
